What Toxic Gases Are Produced During Welding?

Welding generates hazardous gases, including:

1. Ozone (O₃) – Forms when UV radiation reacts with oxygen; irritates lungs and eyes.

2. Nitrogen Oxides (NOₓ) – Created by high heat + air; causes respiratory inflammation.

3. Carbon Monoxide (CO) – Incomplete combustion; leads to dizziness or poisoning.

4. Phosgene (COCl₂) – Forms if chlorinated solvents (e.g., degreasers) vaporize; highly toxic.

5. Hexavalent Chromium (Cr(VI)) – From stainless steel welding; carcinogenic.

6. Metal Fumes – Zinc, cadmium, or lead vapors (depending on materials); cause neurological damage.
